Mission & Values

At Nalu Books, our mission is to uplift and center literature by, about, and from Hawaiʻi, Pasifika, and Asia, while celebrating the richness of BIPOC and queer voices. We are dedicated to building an inclusive, thriving community by curating authentic stories, supporting small businesses and creators from Kānaka, Pasifika, Asian, BIPOC, and queer communities, and providing meaningful resources for families and educators.

We are committed to:

  • Offering thoughtfully selected books and items that reflect and honor diverse lived experiences.
  • Highlighting and collaborating with small businesses and creators from our communities.
  • Sourcing responsibly through pre-loved, overstock, and gently imperfect new books to reduce waste and increase access.
  • Soon providing secular educational resources—unit studies, character explorations, and book-based guides—centered on Hawaiʻi, Pasifika, and Asian cultures.
  • Connecting families with reputable cultural practitioners and educators for learning that goes beyond the page.

Our vision is a welcoming space where every reader feels seen, valued, and inspired to grow.
